Second album of The Gardeners, MIGRAINE BOY - reference to the MTVs character of same name - its the first work for Virgin Records and points for another direction in relation to predecessor THE GARDENERS GROW UP. The reviews about first work to have a tendency excessively pop took Morgan and Stevens (authors of all tracks) a sound heavier approaching of influences brought by Seattle hard-rock and of the British punk-rock besides the strait contact with Crackdown, another band of Hertfordshire whose guitar-player Brian Stanley - a Gregors friend - he accompanied group in their tour. Even so during the recordings in studio the another guitarist's absence ended up overloading Gregor that had to exercise the double paper of base and solo guitar. In this instant it was valuable producer Gary Brodan's contribution, in his first work with The Gardeners, that since then starting a partnership well-happened to the quartet of Welwyn Garden City, it have been moved to London. The lyrics also show a certain evolution in relation to the other CD because humorous line wasnt abandoned by The Gardeners represented mainly by last three tracks and Morgan also discharge critics about society as in 'Peace On the Hell' and in the epic 'The Mission'. The devaluation of the human condition is other theme that appears along MIGRAINE BOY as in Shadows of Darkness' and in 'Instantaneous Burning' although this last one has more the commitment of shaking the listener as well as 'Slap' and 'Steam'. Even so they are the ballads 'All Around the Way' and 'Take Time to Time' more song-title 'Migraine Boy' (all these songs became video-clip) they guide the album to the 1 million and 10 thousand sold copies showing that although it was not new, the formula of The Gardeners pleased the public. 'Migraine Boy' was Top Ten hit single in the european charts and reached Top 20 in Billboard.
The Gardeners produced a huge material that for a reason or another ended not being utilized in this disc, some were released in compacts and other until today they are unpublished showing the productivity of this phase of The Gardeners.
